Khajuraho made Victorian British blush

When the British discovered the temples at Khajuraho, they noticed with some surprise and dismay that some of the carvings on the temples did not meet Victorian British standards of propriety. This resulted in the reputation becoming the Kamasutra temples of Khajuraho. There are indeed some erotic carvings, but they are relatively few, and not the focus of the temples. Most of the carvings represent everyday life, the construction, battles of war, or themes from religious stories of the past.
