Daulatabad Fort

Daulatabad Fort is an impressive 11th century fortress near Aurangabad. There are few impressive carvings, temples or palaces, just an impressively fortified citadel. There are multiple series of walls and moats. There are maze like tunnel stairways leading up to the top, and with branches that lead to dead ends. In the center of the fort is a 600 ft high rocky hill that stands out above the surrounding countryside. It took a while to climb to the top, and it was quite warm by 10:30 when I reached the uppermost watch tower. The fort is not on the main stream tourist map and there were few visitors. There was just one other foreign tourist, a Japanese man about my age who was at the top when I made it there.
