The caves were carved out of solid rock. There are carvings and some remaining painting on the walls and ceiling. Many of the caves were not completed. On may suspect that the money from the rich patron had run out. These uncompleted areas gave a glimpse into the work-in-process, and the chiseling out of the hard rock. The light was dim in the caves and flash photography was not allowed.
