Aurangabad to Hampi

The trip from Aurangabad to Hampi was long, but not too bad. I first took a local commuter train from Aurangabad to Manmad. Aurangabad is a thriving commercial center, and Manmad is about two hours away by train, and a major railway interchange. From Manmad, I took an all day and overnight sleeper train to Hubli Junction. I shared the sleeping area with two Buddhist monks, one an elderly gentleman who spoke very good english, and the other a middle aged and very kind and gentle monk. It was pleasant to spend a little time with them. From Hubli, I took a second class and packed local passenger train east to Hospet, the nearest railway station to Hampi. It was beautiful countryside, mostly under cultivation: sugar cane, corn, rice, sunflowers, and more. I took an auto-richshaw to Hampi Bazaar, tourist central, where I found a room for a couple of nights.
